The Kiss was an instant hit. Klimt believed that when you look at a couple, only their heads, hands and feet stand out, the rest is just a sumptuous swirl of shape and color. Klimt also liked to use gold in his paintings. This painting had so much gold in it, people said it was his golden period of painting.
